William J. Leonard


Mr. William Leonard died Saturday, 08 Jan, of old age and was buried at 2 oƕclock at the family graveyard. Mr. Leonard was one of the old pioneers of this neighborhood, a well respected citizen and one of the old time Republicans of Jefferson Township. He was over 83 years old.

Death of the Oldest Settler in Jefferson Township

William J. Leonard was born in the state of Kentucky, September 4, 1814, moved to Indiana in 1822, and came to Ohio in 1830, landing first at Cincinnati, and staying there one year. He came from there to Washington Furnace where he was married in 1835 to Rebecca Wallace and settled on the farm where he resided until the time of his death, January 8, 1898, aged 83 years, 4 months and 4 days. His aged wife survives him. He was ordained deacon in the Christian church in 1867 and has been a true member up to death. He was the oldest settler of Jefferson Township, Jackson County.
