Marcus D. Lohr, Jr.


Marcus D. Lohr Jr., 75, Crooksville, died Friday, Oct. 2, 1998, at his residence. Born Aug. 24, 1923, at Logan, son of the late Marcus D. and Vernice Beals Lohr Sr., he was the widower of Mary A. Lohr, who died July 15. A former employee at Logan Clay Products, he was a former teacher at Coalton schools in Jackson County and taught at Hiram High School. He served as basketball coach at Alexander in Albany, where he also served as a teacher and principal before becoming superintendent for the Alexander School District. He was the Superintendent of Schools at Crooksville from 1973 until his retirement in 1979. The 1941 graduate of Logan High School graduated from Eastern Kentucky University, where he attended on a football scholarship. While in the Army, he played football for the Troop Carrier Command in Austin, Texas, where he served as an aircraft mechanic. He was a member of Grand Masonic Lodge 25, Council 71 Chapter 16 and Commandry 19, all of Richmond, Ky.; the Crooksville American Legion Post and Lions Club. He was inducted into the Logan High School Athletic Hall of Fame in ceremonies conducted Friday evening. Surviving are a son, Marcus D. III (Kim) Lohr of Indianapolis; a daughter, Mrs. Dan (Barbara) Sickels of Canal Winchester; three granddaughters, Maggie, Devon and Emmeline Lohr of Indianapolis; a great-grandson, Tyler Sickels of Canal Winchester; two brothers, Ray (Jo) Lohr of St. Simons Island, Ga., and George (Nancy) Lohr of Panama City Beach, Fla.; and a sister, Retha Boyd of Jacksonville, Ark. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at Heinlein-Brown Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary K. Wheeler officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Combined Veterans of Hocking County. Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
