Dr. Earl J. Levine


Funeral services were held Monday afternoon for Dr. Earl J. Levine, retired Wellston physician, whose death occured last Thursday afternoon at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus. Two Rabbis, Harold Berman and Jeffery Falick, officiated at the service at the J.P. Rodgers Funeral home. A stream of visitors had come into the funeral home during visiting hours, which concluded Sunday evening. A Masonic Funeral Service was conducted at the funeral home by officers and members of Black Diamond Lodge No. 538 F&AM. of which Dr. Levine was a member. Burial was in Ridgewood Cemetery. Dr. Levine, who was 68, had practiced in Wellston for more than 39 years before his retirement last December. he was a native of New Jersey, and grew up in Norfolk, Virginia where he recived his medical degree. He interned at Mt. Sinai hospital in Philadelphia, followed by residency in pathology and general surgery. He opened practice in Wellston in an office on North Pennsylvania Avenue. He built a clinic on North Ohio Avenue and occupied it from 1950 until his retirement, when he sold the building to the First National Bank. Dr. Levine served in the army commissioned as a first lieutenant, served the Wellston High school as team physician, was a member of the Jackson County Board of Health until his retirement. He was a member of the Downtown Coaches, the Fairgreens Board. He was a member of the Wagon Wheelers Dance Club. He is survived by his wife Annette Levine, a son Mark, two grandchildren, Micah and Alexis Levine, and two brothers, George and Sidney.
