James Keairns


Again death has taken from our midst one of Granada's respected citizens who has lived in this city for over 13 years. James Keairns was born in Jackson County, Ohio, May 26, 1847, and died in Granada, Jan.5, 1919 [sic], about midnight, of rheumatism of the heart, aged 61 yrs, 7 mos, 10 days. Mr. Keairns was married to Miss Drusilla Crabtree Oct. 31, 1869, of which union eight children were born, of who five are living: two sons and three daughters. He enlisted in the first Ohio Heavy Artillery, Company A in August, 1864, at the age of 17 years. He united with the United Brethren church in February 1874. He removed from Ohio to Glencoe, Minn., in 1891, and came from there to Colorado in 1892 and has lived in Granada since March 1895. The funeral Services were conducted by the Rev. A. T. Henry at the church and the body was laid to rest in the cemetery south of town. Mr. Keairns had many friend who mourn his loss.
