Charles Joseph


Charles Joseph Is Taken Friday

Charles Joseph, one of Wellston's better known citizens, passed away last Friday afternoon at Mt. St. Mary's hospital at Nelsonville. He was 81 years old and had been in failing health for the past two years and seriously ill since January of this year. He was born in Lebanon on March 7, 1886 and came to this country in 1906 and setteled in Jackson, where he was engaged in the wholesale fruit business and also worked in the D.T.&I. car shops. Mr. Joseph moved to Wellston in 1914 and started a confectionery business in the store room now occupied by Factory Outlet. He made his own candy and ice cream and the store prospered for the more than 35 years he was in business. He retired in 1947 but continued to help his children in their various business. He was a member of S.S. Peter and Paul Church. Surviving are two sons, Joe and Edward Joseph, and two daughters, Marie Nicholas and Helen Najm. There are two grandchildren. He also leaves one brother, John Joseph of McMechan, W. Va. Funeral services were held Monday morning at 10 o'clock with a requiem Mass at S.S. Peter and Paul Church with Father Joseph Stanton officiating. Burial was made in Mt. Olivet cemetery under the direction of Francis Simons.
