Zella R. Nutter Howdyshell


Zella R. Nutter Howdyshell, 90, New Lexington, died Sunday, April 6, 1997, at Fairfield Medical Center, Lancaster. Born Aug. 1, 1906, Monday Creek Township, Perry County, daughter of the late Elisha J. and Sarah J. Lanning Nutter, she was the widow of Walter H. Howdyshell, who died in 1952. The oldest member of New Lexington Baptist Church, she was also a member of Carnation Chapter 167, OES. Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Roy (Helen) Helser of Somerset, Barbara Callahan of Jackson, Mrs. Ronald (Dorothy) Sidwell of New Lexington, Mrs. Robert (Mary) Shonkwiler of Grandview, Mo., and Betty Groshong of Camp Zuma, Japan; four sons, Walter J. (Dorothy) Howdyshell of New Lexington, Henson (Mari) Howdyshell of New Lexington, David (Shirley) Howdyshell of New Lexington and Russell (Polly) Howdyshell of Logan; 28 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson; and one brother, Elisha (Betty) Nutter of Bremen. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy, in 1951 and 11 brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the New Lexington Baptist Church on South Main Street with the Revs. Carl Finley, Fred Taylor and Grover Morris officiating. Burial will be in New Lexington Cemetery. Friends may call 2 to 8 p.m. today and 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Roberts Funeral Home, 304 Mill St., New Lexington; and noon to time of services Thursday at the church. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to New Lexington Baptist Church, South Main St., New Lexington, Ohio 43764.
