Retired Carpenter Dies of Self-Inflicted Gun Wound

Robert Hickman, 87-year-old retired carpenter of Jackson township, was found dead in the wagonshed near his home, Saturday afternoon, the victim of a self-inflicted gun wound. The body was found in the shed sometime after the act was believed to have been committed. Coroner Charles Gaskill was called and he reported that death was caused by a self-inflicted wound in the heart. Mr. Hickman had lived in Jackson township for many years and was widely known there and in this city also. Relatives stated that he had been worrying a great deal about his health, fearing also that he might become blind. This is believed to have caused his action. Mrs. Hickman died six years ago. Several children survive. Funeral services will be conducted at the home at 1 o'clock this afternoon and burial will follow in the Hickman family cemetery under the direction of John Thomas.
