VENERABLE MAN CROSSED RIVER OF DEATH

Lewis Hayburn Died in East Wellston Thursday

As a result of a fall, which he sustained four weeks ago, Lewis Hayburn, a venerable and highly respected resident of this city for many years, died Thursday at the home of his daughter, Miss Margaret Hayburn on South Massachusetts avenue. Mr. Hayburn, who was 73 years old, was born at Eagle Furnace in Vinton county and was a furnaceman and miner. For many years he lived east of Wellston near Ratchford, but recently he and his daughter had moved to East Wellston. His wife, who was Mary Hounstine, died eighteen years ago, but he is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Donald Bartoe and Mrs. Wm. J. Collins of this city, Mrs. E. E. Saltsman of Ratchford, Mrs. Ed Stevens of Trimble and Miss Margaret at home. His son, Herschel, whose wife and family reside in East Wellston, was killed in the mines at Derwent last February. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at Zion church and was largely attended by the many friends of Mr. Hayburn, who loved and respected him for his integrity and other sterling qualities. Interment was in the cemetery at Lincoln Fee. With the passing of her father, Mrs. Saltsman has been bereaved four times within the past fifteen months. In October 1918, her husband was killed under a car at his mine and three months later, her eldest son, Clyde, died of influenza. Her only brother was killed in February.
