Carl R. Gettles


Carl R. Gettles Dies In Florida -- Carl R. Gettles, well known south Wellston resident, died suddenly last Friday afternoon in a hospital at Lake Wales, Fla., following a heart attack. He and Mrs. Gettles had gone to Florida two weeks ago where they were spending the winter months. He was 68 years old. Mr. Gettles was born in Wellston August 3rd 1899, the son of Henry and Laura Johnson Gettles. He was a member of the Wellston EUB church, a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles of Wellston and of the Modern Woodsmen of America. He was the former owner of Gettles Market and Hardware in south Wellston, which business was sold in 1965 to Paul Betts, at which time Mr. Gettles retired. Surviving are his wife, Eula Fisher Gettles, one son, James Gettles, and two daughters, Mrs. Guy (Mary Lou) Montgomery and Mrs. Vaughn (Roberta) Huffman, all of Wellston. There are 12 grandchildren. He also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Jessie Melvin and Mrs. Beatrice Gray, both of Wellston. He was preceded in death by his parents and eight brothers and sisters. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Rogers Chapel with Rev. John Currens officiating. Burial followed in Ridgewood Cemetery under the direction of Rogers Mortuary.
