Bertha L. Graves


Bertha L. Graves, 76, of Ray, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord on Friday evening, September 12, 2003, at her residence, surrounded by her family and friends, following an extended illness. She was born in Ray, Ohio, on September 5, 1927, to Wayne and Ollie Branscom Tennant, who preceeded her in death. She was united in marriage on July 15, 1944 to Pearley L. Graves, who preceeded her in death on October 10, 1988. To this union was born six children, Leslie (Brenda) Graves of Ray, Susie (Wilbur) Hale of Ray, Dale (Brenda) Graves of Londonderry, Beverly Graves of Ray, Lenora (Sam) Ifon of Tampa, Florida, and Robin (Dwight) Lankford of Tampa, Florida. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, her sister Grace McFadden Headley (Dale) of Wellston; aunts Clara Clary of Londonderry and Alace Benson of Chillicothe, as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceeded in death by brothers Raymond Tennant and Darryl Tennant and sister Virginia Tennant. Bertha had been employed by Kuppenheimer Manufacturing Pants Factory in Wellston and The U.S. Shoe Corporation of Chillicothe until she was forced to retire due to illness. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Beverly Graves and Susie Hale who cared for Mother during her extended illness. She will be loved and missed by all. Calling hours will be Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home with Rev. Jim McFadden officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery. Funeral Services for Bertha L. Graves are under the direction of the McWilliams Funeral Home.
