Harold A. DeVol

HAROLD DEVOL IS INTERRED MONDAY IN RIDGEWOOD LOT

Harold A DeVol, one of the earlier employees in the Hercules Trouser Co, Wellston plant, died Saturday morning at 2:00 o'clock at his home, east A st. He had been failing in health many months, and old friends were shocked at his apparent illness when he returned a year or two ago from Phoenix, Ariz. He was born March 1, 1892 at Marietta, a son of Fred and Alice Morgenstein DeVol. His father was a tailor by trade, and at an early age young Harold learned how to press men's clothing in his father's shop. When the Hercules plant was located at Wellston, he was hired immediately as a presser, and for many years until his removal west, he was a faithful employee. His wife, who was Grace Long, survives him, with one daughter, Louene, now Mrs James Lewis, of Wellston. Living with the DeVols is the mother-in-law, Mrs Charles L Long, widow of a once prominent merchant. There are also a grandson, and two granddaughters, children of Mr and Mrs Lewis. He leaves one sister, Mrs Fred Clark, St Petersburg, Fla. For a few years after their marriage, Mr DeVol was associated with his father-in-law, Charley Long, in the latter's Second st, shoe store. When it was closed, he went to the Hercules Co. For a few months he was employed as a salesman in the Gilbert Shoe Store. Mrs DeVol was an insatiable reader, and had a discriminating taste for books. He was a good neighbor and had the respect of a wide acquaintanceship. Rev D H Householder of the Methodist Church conducted the funeral service at the Gaskill Chapel Monday afternoon. Burial was in Ridgewood Cemetery.
