Phoebe Crabtree

Phoebe Crabtree, daughter of Hiram and Elizabeth Crabtree, was born in Jackson County Ohio August 20, 1849, and was called hence March 10, 1924, being almost 75 years of age.

Miss Crabtree was one of eleven brothers and sisters, nine of whom have preceeded her into the great beyond and one only survives her. She and three of her brothers had made their home together for a long period of years. One by one they have passed on until only one brother, Newton, is left to mourn her going.

Early in life she united with the Church of Christ near their country home.

In tribute to her it is said by her relatives and neighbours, that she was a good woman. One who never knew gile, one untouched by the world of sin. A lover of her home and family. Although she never married, yet she had laid on her all the duties of her brother's home. Her devotion to them and their's in return to her was very marked. There was the warmest spirit of love and the tenderest care and solitude one for the other.

While her life was lived in that quiet manner and away from the outer world nevertheless she contributed her share of humble service to humanity, and in her going she leaves in the hearts of those of her circle of relatives and friends the warmest feeling of appreciation of a humble service kindly rendered, and of a pure life lived.

Out yonder in the moonlight, wherein God's Acre lies,
Go angels waking to and fro, singing their lullabies.
Their radiant wings are folded and their eyes are bended low,
As they sing among the beds wherein the flowers delight to grow.
Sleep, Oh Sleep, The shepherd guardeth his sheep.
Fast speedeth the night away; soon cometh the glorious day.
Sleep, weary ones, while ye may. Sleep! Oh, Sleep!
The flowers in God's Acre see that fair and wonderous sight,
And hear the angles sing to the sleeper through the night.
And, lo! throughout the hour's of day these gentle flower prolong
The music of the angel in the tender slumber song.
Sleep, Oh, Sleep! The shepherd loveth his sheep.
He that guardeth his flock the best
Foldeth them into his loving breast.
So sleep ye now and take your rest. Sleep! Oh, Sleep!
