Paul V. "Pean" Cheatwood


Paul V. "Pean" Cheatwood, age 91, of Wellston, passed away Saturday, August 2, 2003, at his home with his family and friends at his side. Born July 23, 1912, to the late Ammazi "Fatty" and Elizabeth Cheatwood, Pean was a WWII veteran. He served in Australia, New Guinea and the Philippines, as a steam wench operator. He trained others as steam wench operators in Baton Rouge, Louisiana before returning home. Paul had coal mines of his own in Mohawk Hollow, Lincoln Hollow and Buckeye Furnace. He also worked for Walton Coal Company, the City of Wellston, and Ralston Purina. Paul was an avid farmer and gardener with his brothers for many years and enjoyed the company of his friends and family. Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy Hudson Cheatwood, in 1977; stepson, Bob Hudson; best friend, Gordon Downard; infant sister, Sarah; infant brother, Barton; sister, Vera Cheatwood; brothers, June, Lawrence and Leo "Deed" Cheatwood. Paul is survived by daughter, Virgene, and son-in-law, Terry Jayjohn of Wellston; granddaughter, Teresa (Jim) Williams; great-grandson, Tristen Williams; step-grandchildren, Bobbi (Harry) Wolfe, Lisa Dailey, and Tony Hudson; step-great-grandchildren, Evan and Rachel Johnson, Jarrod Dailey and Kyler Hudson; sister-in-law, Kate Cheatwood; and several nieces and nephews. Services were Tuesday at the J.P. Rogers Funeral Home in Wellston with Pastor Mark Baker officiating. Burial followed in Ridgewood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to "Farm of the Child", c/o Dr. Douglas Jones, 449 W. 2nd St., Wellston, Ohio 45692.
