Opal I. Collins


Opal I. Collins, 88, of East 6th Street, Wellston, died Thursday, June 26, 1997, at the Jenkins Memorial Health Facility following a brief illness. Born August 18, 1908 in Ray, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Josephine Thacker Scott. Mrs. Collins was a member of the First Baptist Church of Wellston, where she was recognized as the 1996 Spiritual Mother of the Year, and held many different offices in the church over the years. She was one of the first volunteers at Jenkins Memorial Nursing Home and was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She is survived by five daughters, Phyllis Sims, Mary Lou Partlow and Carolyn Morgan, all of Wellston, Marilyn Neal of Fostoria, Ohio, and Martha Bitonte of Columbus; two nephews, Bob Watson of Washington, D.C., and Ernie Watson of Front Royal, Va.; a sister, Garnet L. Scott of Wellston; nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard F. Collins, in 1969, a sister Ruby Watson, a grandson Joseph H. Bitonte and a great-grandson Matthew Saunders. Funeral services were held Sunday at the Jenkins Funeral Chapel with Pastor Michael Allen officiating. Burial was at Ridgewood Cemetery.
