Lacked Only Two Days of Being Married 64 Years

Jesse Collins Dies of Paralysis at His Home in Wellston Sunday

Lacking only two days of reaching the 64th anniversary of his marriage, Jesse Collins died Sunday morning, 10 minutes after midnight, at his home on south Massachusetts ave. Mr. Collins had been stricken two months before with paralysis, and his condition seemed hopeless. He was born Aug. 16, 1850, and had lived in Milton township or Wellston practically all his life. His parents were Jesse and Nancy Wetzel Collins. In earlier years he lived at the old charcoal furnaces, but during the latter part of his life worked in the mines around Wellston as long as he was able. Mr. And Mrs. Collins were married 64 years ago. Their son, Charles Collins, of Southgate, Calif., arrived from the Pacific coast Saturday in response to a summons because of his father's illness. He will remain sometime with his family here. Mr. Collins was born 88 years ago at old Buckeye Furnace, east of Wellston. His wife, Eliza Yarrington before their marriage, was born at Washington Furnace, south of Oak Hill. Mr. and Mrs. Collins were married at Lincoln Furnace, Sept. 27, 1874 by Squire Rufus Braley. They have ten children living and one dead, 38 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and two great-great-granchildren. Two grandchildren, Gerald Collins and Miss Wilma Booth, were reared by the grandparents. Their sons and daughters are Mrs. Henry Ingalls, Mrs. Fred Gills, Mrs. Henry Werner, Miss Bess Collins, James, Fred, Homer and George Collins, all of Wellston; Mrs. Milton Patton of New Boston; and Charles Collins of Southgate, Calif. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon from the United Brethren church about the same hour that Mr. and Mrs. Collins had hoped to observe their 64th wedding anniversary. Rev. H. O. Thompson conducted the service. Burial was in Ridgewood cemetery.
