Charles Conrad


Charles Conrad, son of Frederick and Rebecca Duncan Conrad, was born on the John Brown farm near Chapman, Ohio, January 24, 1846, and departed this life at his home in Coalton, Ohio, November 18, 1937, age 91 years 9 months, 25 days. He joined Company L, 12th Ohio Volunteer Cavalry on October 10, 1863 serving through two years and one month of the Civil War. He was married on February 28, 1875, to Mildred Wykle of Petrea O. To this union was born ten children, two daughters, Norma and Martha, preceding him in death. Those of his family left to mourn his loss besides his wife are Harry, Mrs. Frank (Nellie) James and Mrs. Robert (Mary) Giltnane of Dayton, O., Frank, of Buffalo, O., Ray, of Cadiz, O., Mrs. Wilson (Ales) Grimes of Jackson route 4, Clyde and Norman, of Coalton. He also leaves 27 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, one brother, James, of Wellston; three half-brothers, Fred, Edward and Lewis and one half-sister, Mrs. Barbara Horstman of Jackson.
