Bessie Marie Collins


Bessie Collins is Stricken at Home

Bessie Marie Collins, age 72, a lifetime resident of Wellston, passed away at her home, 916 south New Jersey avenue, at noon on Tuesday [30 Nov 1965]. She had been seriously ill for the past few months. She was born in Jackson county and spent her entire life here. She was a member of the Daughters of America, White Dove Council No. 153. Her parents were Jessie [sic; Jesse] and Eliza Yarrington Collins, both deceased. She leaves her devoted daughter, Mrs. Charles (Wilma) Fitch of Portsmouth and two grandsons and two granddaughters. Four great-grandchildren also survive; and three sisters, Mrs. Minnie Patton, Mrs. Ella Ingalls and Mrs. Edith Warner; three brothers, James, Fred and Homer Collins, all of Wellston; Homer made his home with his sister on New Jersey avenue. Besides her parents, one sister and three brothers preceded her in death, as well as a beloved grandson, Richard Fitch, who passed away last December, following an accident. Friends may call at the residence. The body will be taken to the E. U. B. Church and will lie in state one hour before the services. The casket will be closed at the beginning of the funeral service on Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Conducting the service will be Rev. A. F. Gibbs and burial will follow in Ridgewood Cemetery under the direction of Francis T. Simons.
