Mel Adams


Mel Adams, 68, Prospect, died Saturday, Nov. 2, 1996, at Marion Manor Nursing Home. Born March 11, 1928, at Oak Hill, son of the late William and Marie Patterson Adams, he was married Dec. 24, 1948 in South Shore, Ky. to Faye Dalton Adams, who survives. A retired football coach and principal, he was head football coach at Logan High School during the late 1950s and early 1960s. He was a principal at Lima Shawnee and Elgin High School. He was a member of Central Baptist Church in Marion. He was inducted into the High School Football Hall of Fame in 1982. Also surviving are a son, Stephen A. Adams of Grand Rapids, Mich.; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Lynn) Swaney of Prospect; two sisters, Kathryn Romano and Mildred Phillips, both of Columbus; nine grandchildren and an aunt. Graveside funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Woodland Cemetery, Ironton, with the Rev. Jerry Lewis officiating. No calling hours will be observed. The family suggests contributions be made to Alzheimers Day Care Center, 140 W. Center St., Marion, Ohio 43302.
